Welcome Back, Capsuleer

If you're a returning EVE Online player, the first thing you should do before logging back in is use a referral link. Thanks to CCP's retroactive recruitment feature introduced in November 2022, you can apply a referral link to any existing account — even one created years ago — and receive 1,000,000 free unallocated skill points.

The only requirement is that your account has never been recruited before. Since this feature is relatively new, most returning players haven't used it yet, which means there's a very good chance you're eligible.

What's New in EVE Online for Returning Players

EVE Online has changed significantly over the years. Here's a quick overview of major features you may have missed, depending on how long you've been away:

Alpha & Omega Clones (Free-to-Play)

EVE introduced a free-to-play model in 2016. Alpha clones can play for free with access to tech 1 ships up to battleships and a 5 million SP training cap. Omega clones (subscribers) get full access to all ships, skills, and features.

Abyssal Deadspace

Instanced PvE dungeons that you enter through filaments. They offer escalating difficulty tiers with valuable loot, including mutaplasmids that can modify module stats. Great for solo and small-group content.

Triglavian Content

An entirely new faction with unique ships and weapons. The Triglavian Invasion storyline reshaped the map, creating the Pochven region — a new area of space with its own mechanics and gameplay.

Faction Warfare Overhaul

Faction warfare received significant updates including frontline systems, advantage mechanics, and improved rewards. It's now one of the best entry points for new and returning PvP pilots.

AIR Career Program

A structured program that guides players through different career paths (combat, mining, exploration, industry) with milestone rewards including skill points. Useful for returning players who want a refresher.

Tips for Returning Players

Claim your referral SP first — Before you do anything else, use the referral link to get your 1 million free skill points. This gives you a nice cushion to adapt your skills to new content.
Check the AIR Career Program — Even as a veteran, the AIR program can help you catch up on game mechanics that have changed. Plus you earn additional skill points.
Review your skill queue — Ships and modules may have been rebalanced since you last played. Check if your skill plan still aligns with your goals.
Join a corporation — The best way to get back into EVE is with other players. Look for corps that are welcoming to returning pilots.
Start small — Don't undock your most expensive ship on day one. Fly something cheap while you relearn the mechanics and get a feel for the current meta.

Yes. CCP does not delete EVE Online accounts due to inactivity. Your characters, skills, assets, and ISK should all be exactly as you left them. You may need to recover your login credentials through CCP's account recovery process if you've forgotten them.

EVE Online continues to receive regular updates and maintains an active player community. With over 21 years of history, it remains a unique sandbox MMO that no other game replicates. Whether it's worth playing depends on what you're looking for, but the game is in a healthy state with regular content updates.

Yes. You can log in as an Alpha clone for free. Alpha clones can fly tech 1 ships up to battleships and have access to a limited but substantial set of skills. If your character has more than 5 million SP, you'll retain those skills but can only actively use Alpha-eligible ones until you subscribe to Omega.
